The paper deals with the development of selected demographic parameters in the South-East region of the Czech Republic according to its two sub-regions between 1993 and 2005. The development of indicators in the CR as well as in both sub-regions, i.e. “Jihomoravský kraj” and “Vysočina”, follows approximately the same course: both in respect to the direction and to the changes; however, they vary in respect to the level attained. In all regions, marriage rate changed from rapid change to slight decrease: it is lower in the region than in the CR varying only minimally amongst the sub-regions. However, there is a significant difference in the divorce rate, which – while slightly growing – is lower in the region than in the CR: the divorce rate is lower in “Vysočina” than in “Jihomoravský kraj”. Birth rate, after rapid decrease, has reached a stable level and started growing slightly; its level has been practically balanced in recent years. Death rate is decreasing, being lower in the region; it is minimal in the “Vysočina” sub-region.
